The famous Skyrian Carnival

The famous carnival of Skyros is unique. In these wonderful celebrations of Carnival, "Geros", "Korela" with the traditional yellow silk scarf, but also "Frangos" are the real protagonists of this wonderful custom of Tradition.
The face of the "Geros" is hidden by the skin of a small goat with only two holes for the eyes. Animal & Shepherd bells, white woven socks and leather sandals complete this wild, primitive look that is lost in the depths of time.
The celebrations last many days with songs & local dances and end with the custom of TRATA on the last Sunday of the carnival events that gathers thousands of visitors on the island. The Monday that follows, is a famous Greek traditional celebration.
